The name Toke Makinwa is not a strange name in the Nigerian media space. The On Air personality also happens to be a Vlogger, TV host, Entrepreneur, and Author. She is undoubtedly one of the most influential Nigerians, known for hosting “The Morning Drive” on Rhythm 93.7, her popular Vlog series “Toke Moments” and the publishing of her memoir “On Becoming” in 2016. Recently, she has taken up acting to add to her numerous ventures. She appeared in Mr. Macaroni’s skit, and she is part of the main cast of House 21Tv YouTube Series, acting alongside Falz the Badh guy, Bovi and Josh 2 Funny.
Born in Lagos State on the 3rd of November 1984, she attended Federal Government College, Oyo State before proceeding to the University of Lagos for a degree in English and Literature. Although she lost her parents at age 8, she was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Akinyelure. In 2010 she made her media debut on the Radio show “The Morning Drive” as a co-host on Rhythm 93.7 FM. Her TV appearance was in 2012, as host of the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria.
“On Becoming” was published in November 2016, this memoir features her personal struggles, and betrayal of her now Ex-husband Maje Ayida, she went on tour to promote the book in Nigeria, the UK, US, South Africa, and parts of East Africa. In 2017, her hand bag line was launched. She has been the face of many brands such as Maggi, Pay porte, Ciroc, recently she signed an endorsement deal with Oppo mobile Telecommunications.
Many awards have been won by Miss Toke Makinwa, which includes Nigeria Broadcasters Awards, Glitz Awards, Avance Awards, Africa Youth Awards, truly she deserves all the accolades. Toke has proven that no matter the difficulties life throws at you, there is no excuse to back down. There must be a deliberate effort to pursue excellence. She has also proven that whatever is desired must be sought with passion.
