The General Manager of Royal Root 92.9 FM, Charles Alade yesterday took a trip down memory lane as he visited Radio Nigeria again. This was gathered through a post on his social media handle on Friday, April 15, 2022 where he stated, “Any River that forgets it source will eventually Dry up!
In his words, “As I walk through FEDERAL RADIO CORPORATION OF NIGERIA FRCN, IBADAN NATIONAL STATION my heart is filled with so much emotions .
“I remember how I worked into premier FM with no prior radio experience in 2011, but with great potentials in the area of audio production , informal radio ideas and music. Fast forward to 2014/2015 I had just completed my NYSC, while I was at Umuahia Dr Abiodun Olufemi-Ogidan who was the General manager called me on phone and said “Collins Teke is leaving and we need a young vibrant presenter like you with a youthful vibe to fill up and he has recommended you .
“When I arrived Ibadan Mrs Toyin BALOGUN said “Omo Charlly” that’s how she adresses me . Go and come up with three programs you think you can do successfully .
So I had Gospovibes premier 93.5fm on Sunday , Music box on Wednesday’s and Jazz night on Thursday nights 10pm to 12am. I was the new kid in the block with crazy ideas and feels . I possible broke all the conventional rules on air but kept to the standard of NBC. I was so excited I had gotten a job while most of my mates couldn’t figure out what’s next .
My starting take home which is the standard for independent presenters which we call artiste was the minimum wage , after tax is been deducted will be #17,750.
“I was easily noticed because other DCA’s hardly have time to play music because We must join abuja on all broadcast. I gave the audience back to back hit songs on my shows with amazing radio imaging .
“Later I started getting busier and couldn’t meet up with all my programs , My new Head of programs then Aunite mi ( I don’t want to mention her name ) will insist charly your money will be deducted oooo, Rev Dahunsi Niyi will say leave him he has informed me. Imagine deduction inside 17,750.
“Back to why I am writing this and became emotional .
While I was with my Mother in the broadcast Industry , A woman who is at the upper Echelon of her Broadcasting career , The Zonal Director of FRCN ibadan zonal station Mrs Bolatito Joseph I narrated how I survived on #17,750 with wife and a daughter from 2015 to 2020 which I still don’t understand! She replied Charles it’s the Grace of God !!
Today God has elevated me .
