Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo state, Nigeria will not cease to surprise media observers home and abroad with diverse good hands and intellectually sound On-Air-Personalities with exceptional skills it parades per time.
Some of these OAPs in Ibadan have become household names in the society, distinguishing themselves from their colleagues in the industry as a result of their ‘extra’ added to their ordinary i.e going extra mile beyond the normals.
It is unmagineable that some OAPs has been standing out as a result of their mastery of more than one language, although they are known for a particular language but yet does brilliantly well when they have to delivered in other languages.
In our inexhausive list, Primus Media City has come with another interesting chapter of some set of OAPs on Ibadan Radio, that has presented programmes remarkably well in both English and Yoruba Language at different times.
YEMI SONDE
Yemi Sonde, well known as Jigan is one of the well read and brainy OAP in the Western part of the country, Nigeria. He is a well experienced personality in the broadcast media industry. He presently anchors YS Live programme in English on Splash 105.5 FM, a magazine show that treats different issues from current affairs, personality interviews and as well as ‘Ko maa flow’ a Yoruba programme on Faaji FM in Lagos state. Also, for 22 years, he used to handle a Yoruba entertainment show knowns as ‘Miliki Express’ on Oluyole 98.5 FM Ibadan.
AFOUDA SAMUEL
Afouda Samuel with his contagious laughter on Radio is a versatile OAP that can be described as an emblem of one in all and all in one in the media kingdom. Afouda Baba agbalagba, also know as The god on radio is of an organic talent who does well in English, Yoruba and Pidgin languages even though he is a pidgin Radio/TV presenter. Afouda anchored Night on Derok for over 3 years on Splash 105.5 FM and also anchored Public Defender on 32 FM at its inception. He has also anchored some of the most popular Pidgin programmes in the city, from Tori-tori on Space FM, Naija Nawa on Lagelu FM and presently ‘What’s Up 9ja’ on 32FM, Ibadan. He also anchors Oja-Agbe a Yoruba Agricultural show on 32FM and he delivers beautifully well on all.
DELE ADEYANJU
Dele Adeyanju well known as Agba Letu is an eminent OAP and a versatile broadcast journalist per excellence. He is also a musician and an actor. Until recently he was the Head of Station, Lead City 89.1 FM. He is the anchor of the famous Yoruba programme show, Agba man which has thrived successfully on many radio stations in and outside thee city. Dele Adeyanju is a genius at what he does in both indegneous and foreign languages. Apart from his highly entertaining shows in Yoruba, he also reads the News in English Language beautifully well and does Newspaper Review occasionally on 32FM 94.9. The giant presenter is indeed a giant on and off the microphone.
ABOLADE SALAMI
Abolade Salami is an ace OAP of many years experience who perfectly anchors Radio programmes in both Yoruba and English language. His mastery of English language despite being a Yoruba presenter is such an impeccable one. The currently Head of Operations/Director of Programmes at Fresh 105.9 FM Ibadan reads news in English language. One would better call the aged man on radio custodian of languages in Broadcast industry.
