I recently came across an article claiming that Ondo State broadcasters are broke. As someone familiar with the industry, I strongly disagree with this assertion. Every individual faces financial ups and downs, but to generalize that Ondo State broadcasters are “totally broke” is unfounded and misleading.
The reality is that many Ondo State broadcasters are thriving financially. They charge significant fees for services like jingles (minimum of ₦20,000), MC services (₦100,000 per day), and advertising. They also receive payment for special appearances and have various revenue streams. For instance, some broadcasters earn up to ₦200,000 or more for hosting only one high-profile events. These are just side hustles aside of Salary.
It’s cool to note that there are stations in Oǹdó state that are paying their staff members as high as #150,000 and above, while many are paying low.
It’s no wonder that Ondo State broadcasters are frequently nominated for awards, as their financial success is evident. While some may choose to keep a low profile, others are living comfortably, owning luxury cars, and engaging in philanthropic activities like sponsoring giveaways and providing financial support to those in need.
Many Ondo State broadcasters are entrepreneurs, owning businesses and investing in real estate. Some have even built their own homes. For example, a popular broadcaster in Ondo State recently commissioned a multimillion-naira mansion. Another broadcaster has a thriving business, supplying equipment to radio stations and event organizers.
Moreover, Ondo State broadcasters are known for their generosity. Many sponsor giveaways, donate to charity, and provide financial support to upcoming artists and broadcasters. Some have even established foundations to support education and healthcare initiatives.
It’s unfair to judge the entire industry based on the financial struggles of a few upcoming broadcasters. Every profession has its challenges, and broadcasting is no exception. However, to claim that Ondo State broadcasters are broke is a gross exaggeration.
Let’s set the record straight: Ondo State broadcasters are not broke. They are a testament to hard work, resilience, and financial savvy. While some may face financial challenges, many are thriving and making significant contributions to their communities.
