The Radio Poaching Epidemic: A Case for Contractual Loyalty – Kenny Ogunmiloro

A radio station takes the risk of bringing a relatively unknown OAP with a huge potential to its station, invest in him/her by giving him/her airtime to display their talent, nurture their growth and boom after 1 year or even less, another big station go just come and poach the OAP away just like that and there is nothing anyone can do about it

The worst is to forfeit one month salary or if the OAP is professional, he/she go just give one month notice for the station to look for a replacement

If God says ‘am gonna have my radio station tomorrow, God knows that I will tell my HR to employ my staff in a football-related structure

I will give you a 3-year contract which will include your salary plus add-ons to sign, with an option of an extension if I am pleased with your duties

You cannot leave my station in that 3years and in those 3years, you owe my station 100% loyalty and dedication. Also, we both have the right to sit down again after the 3yrs to discuss if we are extending or not. If you want to extend, it means I MUST increase whatever I offered you before.

Meanwhile, if you want to leave before the end of your contract, then you or your new station must buy out the remaining years of your contract with me

If you breach any part of your contract details, we go meet for court Business is business, emotion is emotion, they should be separated from each other in a business structure

I wish I could implement this as the General Manager of my station but my CEO is a very nice man. When a presenter left Fresh FM without giving us one month notice and was even ready to forfeit a month’s salary, Oga ordered the account department to pay his salary in full.

I will write extensively on this in my next #radioclasswithkennyogunmiloro
