The Chairman, Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria, John Ugbe, has said its forthcoming award will boost media practice in the country.
Ugbe, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Multichoice Nigeria, said this during the week at an event to unveil the logo of The Nigeria Broadcasting Award. According to him, the event is in recognition of media excellence in the country.
Scheduled to hold in October 2022, Ugbe noted that it will celebrate excellence in broadcast media professionals.
He also stated that the decision to institute TNBA was taken at BON’s 76th General Assembly, which approved the composition of the awards steering committee drawn from public and private broadcast media houses under the chairmanship of Guy Murray-Bruce, the President of the Silverbird Group.
Ugbe added, “BON, having noted the need to motivate media practitioners responsible for daily information dissemination, public enlightenment, and entertainment, has decided to recognise and reward them for their works of excellence.
“BON is, therefore, organising TNBA to recognise and reward excellence in the broadcast media industry.”
The awards is open to both members and non-members of BON, and will have 13 categories including ‘Radio Station/Best Television Station of the Year’, ‘Best Radio Station/ Best Television— News in English’, ‘Best Radio Station/ Best Television Station-Indigenous Language’, ‘Best Radio/Best Television Station- Original Production in English’, and ‘Best Radio/Best Television Station-Original Production in Indigenous Language.’
