Ace broadcaster and Chief Executive Officer of Agidigbo FM, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat has said the press statement by the Nigerian Police Force, NPF alleging that he did not “honour police invitations” is false. This was gathered in a press statement made available to Primus Media City.
This was contained in a letter signed by the broadcaster’s lawyer, Mr. Ridwan Adekunle and seen by newsmen on Monday. The letter described the allegation by the NPF as unverified, malicious and deceitful.
Last Thursday, Oriyomi Hamzat was taken into custody by operatives of the Force Intelligence Bureau and subsequently released.
Agidigbo FM in a widely publicised press statement confirmed the arrest of the veteran, noting that it was connected to a petition by the Chairman of Hilton Hotels and Resort, Rahmon Adedoyin who is currently standing trial along with six employees of his hotel over the alleged murder of a postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Timothy Adegoke.
However, a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, titled: “oriyomi hamzat was arrested by police with warrants” said the journalist was arrested owing to his refusal to respond to invitations from the Nigeria Police Force and for anti-bullying activities.
In the signed letter dated May 30th 2022, Mr. Adekunle of Premier Law Firm urged the NPF to gets its facts right before “sharing same with the public while noting that his client “had never at any point refused to honour police invitations severally”.
