The Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria (BON) has unveiled categories for the maiden edition of the Nigerian Broadcasting Awards (TNBA).
John Ugbe, BON chairman, announced the categories on Tuesday when he revealed the logo of the awards.
The broadcasting award categories include Radio station/ Best Television station of the year, Best Radio station-/ Best Television- News in English, Best Radio station/ Best Television- ‘Indigenous language’, Best Radio/ Best Television station-original production ‘English’, and Best Radio/Best Television station-original production ‘Indigenous language’.
Others are Best Radio/Best Television Station in Documentary/Feature -‘English’, Best Radio/ Best Television station -Documentary/ Feature ‘Indigenous language’, Best Radio/ Best Television Show-English, and Best Radio/ Best Television Show- Indigenous language.
They also include; Newscaster of the Year- Radio/Television, Reporter of the Year -Radio/Television, Presenter of the Year – Radio/Television and special contributions to the Broadcast Industry.
According to him, the award, scheduled to hold in October, would go through thorough scrutiny by a steering committee headed by Guy Murray-Bruce, president of Silverbird Group.
“The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria having noted the need to motivate media practitioners responsible for daily information dissemination, public enlightenment and entertainment, has decided to recognize and reward them for their works of excellence,” Ugbe said.
“BON is therefore organising The Nigerian Broadcasting Awards (TNBA) to recognise and reward excellence in the broadcast media industry. The aim is to embody international awards for outstanding achievement in Television and Radio. Distinguished achievement and meritorious service in broadcasting among others.
“There are quite a few categories for which awards will be given across radio and television.
“To achieve a successful Awards, BON at its 76th general assembly approved the composition of the awards steering committee drawn from public and private broadcast media houses. The steering committee is headed by Guy Murray-Bruce, President of Silverbird Group.”
