In a refreshing departure from the often-competitive landscape of Ibadan radio broadcasting, a wave of collaboration is sweeping through the industry.
This positive shift, as observed by media expert Adedayo Oderinu, General Manager of Afinju Redio in Òsogbo, is a welcome development that could set a new standard for the entire broadcasting sector.
According to his article:
A new breeze is blowing through the radio broadcast industry in Ibadan. It’s something I hope they sustain, and impact on the rest of the broadcast industry.
Yesterday, I watched Top Striker’s appearance on Success 105.3 FM on LORI PAPA with Rolemodel’s Sports show. This morning, I woke up to see a post promoting Kenny Ogunmiloro’s scheduled appearance on Yes FM.
This new wave of collaboration is delightful to watch and must be sustained.
The old practice of becoming enemies with your former colleagues because they left your broadcast station, belongs in the dustbin. All of the backbiting, mockery, and victimization that characterize the relationship between radio stations, make no sense.
Journalists, especially radio personalities, should collaborate, not compete. I should give you jobs, and you should give me jobs. We should interact as amiable colleagues within a homogenous broadcast space, not supplant ourselves.
When an OAP moves on to other things, the rest should celebrate that win/progress like it’s theirs.
We should stop behaving like crabs.
We should hold hands and grow together, not pull legs and drag down.
