Broadcast Journalist Temitayo Oyeladun Faces Death Threats Following Controversial Interview

Temitayo Oyeladun, a broadcast journalist with Lagelu FM, Ibadan has raised alarm over threats to his life following an interview aired on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

The interview, which sparked outrage among some residents, has led to heated debates on press freedom in Nigeria.

In a statement shared on his Facebook handle, Oyeladun revealed that he has been receiving death threats and facing intense pressure from powerful figures seeking to have him removed from his job.

“I’m facing death threats for doing my job as a broadcast journalist. I believe in balance opinion and free speech in democratic setting. I’m living in a society where system favour the elite and those in position of authority.

“I have become a soft target in elite chess games and their pursuit of self-aggrandizement. There is pressure from high places to get me sack of my job! If I loose my job or life will they take care of my children and family? My offense? being a child of nobody.

“Friend and family please keep praying for my safety
You will hear from me at the right time.”

The controversy stems from an interview that reportedly questioned or scrutinized the Soun of Ogbomoso, a traditional ruler, triggering widespread reactions among community members who viewed it as disrespectful.

The backlash has reignited discussions about the limits of free speech and whether journalists in Nigeria can operate without fear of retaliation.
