Ibadan based Photographer Seeks Public Support for Life-Saving Spine Surgery Following Accident

Joshua Victor Ayewoh, a 27-year-old photographer and Mass Communication graduate from Olabisi Onabanjo University, is appealing to the public for financial support to undergo critical spine surgery. The Ibadan-based photographer has been battling debilitating pain and limited mobility since an accident on December 12, 2023, along the Apata Expressway.

Initially unaware of the severity of his injuries, Ayewoh resorted to self-care with painkillers and topical balms, relying on a walking stick for mobility. He believed his condition would improve, but by January 2024, the pain became unbearable. He sought treatment at O-Physio Clinic in Bodija, undergoing several physiotherapy sessions. However, financial challenges forced him to halt treatment after two months.

Ayewoh’s condition took a turn for the worse in March 2024 when he suffered a fall while using crutches, injuring his lower back. A lumbosacral MRI at Oluyoro Hospital revealed a disc compression as the cause of his excruciating pain. Despite undergoing a 10-day treatment, his mobility remained impaired.

In May, he was referred to a neurosurgeon, but the recommended surgery remained out of reach due to financial constraints. By late September, Ayewoh sought help from Bodmed Neurological Centre, where doctors advised him to redo his MRI scan. He was also placed on pain relief while awaiting a neurosurgery appointment.

Ayewoh now faces the risk of losing his legs if the necessary surgery is not performed soon. The estimated cost for his surgery and post-surgery therapy is ₦3 million. Though he has managed to raise some funds through crowdfunding, it is far from enough to cover the entire procedure.
