Dr. Babatunde Tiamiyu, the General Manager of Pensioners’ 1067 FM, has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious “Age-Friendly Public Service and Elders’ Justice Advocate Award.” This recognition comes from the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), a government body established under the NSCC Act 2017, tasked with identifying and addressing the needs of senior citizens across Nigeria.
The award will be presented during the 2024 International Day of Older Persons celebration, which takes place every year on October 1st. The day serves as a global platform to honor older persons, highlight their contributions to society, and draw attention to the issues they face.
This year’s theme, “Celebrating the Value of Older Persons and the Integral Role They Play: Recognizing the Places and People that Remove Barriers,” aims to acknowledge individuals and organizations that make significant efforts to ensure older persons’ dignity, independence, and well-being.
Dr. Tiamiyu was recognized for his unwavering dedication to the security, welfare, and justice of older persons throughout his extensive public service career. His advocacy has been instrumental in shaping age-friendly policies and services that promote the inclusion, participation, and recognition of senior citizens across Nigeria.
The NSCC, through a nationwide survey, identified Dr. Tiamiyu based on nominations from older persons who highlighted his exceptional work in providing income security, healthcare access, social care, and promoting dignity for seniors. His contributions to the public and private sectors have earned him recognition as a key advocate for elder justice and age-friendly services in the community.
Dr. Tiamiyu’s award is one of many honors to be presented by the NSCC as part of its efforts to celebrate individuals and organizations making a meaningful impact in the lives of senior citizens across the nation.
