How he Become a Renowned Name in Broadcasting Industry*

Afolabi Abdulafeez popularly known as Abenasports is a talented and dynamic Yoruba Sports Presenter that is rocking the airwave. The hardworking Sports OAP at Metropolitan Broadcasting Services, Operation of IBR 92.5 FM and IATV is from Ibadan, Oyo State. Mr MVP is the Brand Manager of Aphee Media and Communications where he runs an online TV; naijawaytv and Naija Media Celebrities.
 

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

The Ibadan born On Air Personality attended St. John Primary School, Eleta and Methodist Nursery & Primary School, Elekuro, Ibadan for his Elementary Education. He also went to Ibadan Grammar School, Molete and Ibadan City Academy, Eleta, Ibadan for his Secondary Education.
He Proceeded to study Business Education at Oyo State College of Education, and University of Ibadan to study Educational Management.

 BROADCASTING JOURNEY

The former presenter at Lead City FM was deeply in love with acting and he made some efforts in 2004 to join ace actor, Muyiwa Ademola. But being an introvert, he decided to cross to Broadcasting which he believes his creativity can be explored to the fullest.

The Content Provider who started in 2008 experience his first training under Waheed Akintayo Ilumoka Presenter tutelage. He also had a short stint with Lere Shittu at BCOS and Temitope Falaanu at Premier Fm. While he was Inspired by Late Gbenga Adeboye and Late Toba Opaleye.
In the course of training, he has been to Odidere FM Iwo, Amuludun FM and Premier FM before he started working with Lead City FM. Abenasports is the first and only Yoruba Sportscaster on Brilla FM, Lagos.

According to him, “In 2016, i did a Research on Nigerian Companies Ambassadorial Personalities which showed that Broadcasters were not considered to represent Companies brands. But the trend is now changing gradually. For instance in Ibadan, OAPs like Jagunmade Adeshina of Fresh FM, Olawale Hamzat of Lagelu FM, Babatunde Saheed of Fresh FM and Ajibola Akinyefa of Lagelu FM are on brands billboards in Ibadan metropolis. It is a thing of joy for me to see Broadcasters in this line and I have been working tirelessly to ensure Broadcasters are promoted.”

“Broadcasters shed light on actors, musicians and others. it is now the right time we include ourselves in the promotion…Poor remuneration and lack of solid platform are the major Challenges that most Presenters are facing”, He stressed.
He also advised all the Upcoming Presenter to not wait for opportunities but rather create and position themselves for opportunities. No knowledge is a waste, they should make things happen. They must also be 21st Century Broadcasters and they should not toy with social media.

Abenasports is the Convener of Annual MVP OAP’s Table tennis Championship that unites all Broadcasters together which started in 2019.
According to him, “It is an event that brings OAPs together for mutual benefits. The event preaches love and and understanding among us…The motive behind it is to connect and reconnect. Also, to put us on the news for people to consume.”

“I must say the event is beyond me because I can’t claim its success. The glory belongs to all of us. There are many scintillating plans for coming years. We want to put the event on the world map by God grace and show that as we talk it, we play it”, he said.
