Oyo FIBAN Week: Farounbi Cautions NBC on Over Loading Ibadan with Radio Stations

The Oyo State Chapter of Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) under the leadership of Com. Seun Awodele has organized an executive training workshop for broadcasters in Oyo State to scale up professionalism.

According to the release by Amb. Taiwo Oguntoye, S.A Media & Publicity to Com. Awodele, the workshop was organized as one of the activities to mark this year FIBAN week celebration.

In his welcome address, Com. Awodele said training and retraining of all broadcasters is part of the mission and vision of his administration as FIBAN Chairman in the Pace Setter State.

The training tagged ” Refresher Training and Workshop for Broadcasters in Oyo State” was held at the House of Obas and Chiefs , Parliament Building at the State Secretariat in Ibadan on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021 under the distinguished chairmanship of veteran broadcaster, Dr. Yemi Farounbi.

The former Nigeria Ambassador to the Philippines, Amb. Yemi Farounbi in his keynote address defined broadcasting as an approach to everything in the world. He further talked on community sanctioning that broadcasters should be sanctioned when they misbehave and run contrary to the professional ethics and codes not the station.

While advising NBC to review their method of granting licencing to stations, he also cautioned the broadcasting regulatory empire, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) on over loading Ibadan with radio stations that the industrial manufacturing capacity cannot sustain. He further talked on professional culture, professional authority and professional conducts of broadcasters.

The training was in three (3) sessions with the first session handled by former Commissioner of Information in Oyo State and the Coordinator of International Institute of Journalism, Alhaji Bolaji Kareem as he trained the participants on ” Advance Script Writing and Voice Training for Newscasters and Program Presenters.

The Zonal Coordinator of NBC, Ibadan Zone, Mr Raphael Akpan trained participants on “Creative Content Development for Digital Age” while the Oyo State Honourable Commissioner for Information , Culture and Tourism , Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun handled the ” Funding, Marketing and Advertising Strategies for Broadcast Content ” training aspect at the workshop.

Participants were drawn from all public and private media stations across the State in addition to FIBAN members.
