59-year-old ex-journalist needs N1.125m for eye surgery

A 59-year-old ex-journalist, Ade Osijo, has appealed to individuals and organisations to assist him raise funds for an eye surgery.

According to his medical report prepared by a Lagos eye hospital, Osijo has been battling with bilateral poor vision with right eye loss of vision for 17 years.

The report dated May 17, 2023, indicated that the left eye also started having problems about nine months ago.

“Following a detailed ocular examination, the prognosis of right blind and left retinal detachment was made.

“He was advised left retinal detachment repair surgery with moderate prognosis and the right eye was not considered due to no visual prognosis,” the report read.

The hospital gave an estimate of N1.125m as the cost of the eye surgery.

Osijo told PUNCH Metro that he resorted to appealing for funds when despite all the efforts made, he could not raise the money needed for the surgery already slated for between May 22 and 27.

“Owing to the huge cost and expediency, I hereby appeal to any organisation or individual that can come to my aid.

“Due to the time-sensitive nature of this eye problem which was diagnosed in June last year, I had been reluctant to solicit funds because of the amount involved, N1.125m,” he said.

Financial support towards Osijo’s eye surgery can be sent to his Polaris Bank account number 3010549863 with Ade Osijo as the account name.
